I think it’s safe to say that even the most die-hard Mariner fans – and truthfully, some of the players – could use a break from baseball right now. The Mariners have been nicked by the injury bug recently, and are in the midst of an exclusively Angels and Rockies part of the schedule. I do not blame anyone involved for being a little tired. (Same goes for all you beautiful souls who clicked and CAPTCHA’d until your fingers bled to get Jean into the All-Star Game. Your efforts certainly did not go unnoticed.)
Nevertheless, the Mariners will play a baseball game tonight in the city of Anaheim, which I’m obligated to remind you is 30 miles away from the city of Los Angeles. Anaheim is close to Los Angeles in the same way that 10 games out of a Wild Card spot with a 47-45 record is close to the postseason.
I’m...uh...getting distracted. What was I supposed to be writing about? Oh yeah, the Mariners! Tonight they send Marco Gonzales to the hill, as the Gonzaga product goes for his fifth straight start of at least six innings. The only thing standing in his way is Mike Trout, a shortstop who is not an All-Star, and a bunch of guys who scared me a lot more three years ago.
