7/10: Open Game Thread

The one where Jean Segura goes 6-for-6

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Today marks the beginning of a six-game road-trip against the Angels and the Rockies. It’s the last stretch of games the Mariners will have before the All-Star break, a break they need badly. If you missed it, Félix Hernández is officially on the disabled list with a sore back. Between Félix and the various Mariners nursing minor injuries like Dee Gordon, Mitch Haniger, the Mariners are pretty banged up. Hopefully they’re able to at least split this six-game stretch without anyone else hurting themselves.

With the red-hot Athletics starting to catch up, the Mariners do need to do well this series. Their FiveThirtyEight playoff odds are still up at 72%, but they were in the mid-80’s last week. The other perk of doing well in this series is that they could effectively put a nail in the coffin that is the Angels season — Los Angeles is sitting at playoff odds of just 3%.

Today's Lineups

SEATTLE MARINERS LOS ANGELES ANGELS
Dee Gordon - 2B Kole Calhoun - RF
Jean Segura - SS Andrelton Simmons - SS
Mitch Haniger - RF Mike Trout - CF
Nelson Cruz - DH Justin Upton - LF
Kyle Seager - 3B Albert Pujols - 1B
Denard Span - LF Shohei Ohtani - DH
Ryon Healy - 1B Ian Kinsler - 2B
Chris Herrmann - C Luis Valbuena - 3B
Guillermo Heredia - CF Martin Maldonado - C
Mike Leake - RHP Garrett Richards - RHP

Aside from Mike Zunino being on the DL still, it looks like the Mariners are running out their strongest lineup against Garrett Richards. Let’s hope for more runs than we saw this weekend.
