Mariners get another crack at Rays’ opener

MLB: Seattle Mariners at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

For the second straight day, the Mariners are playing a Tampa Bay team that is using a reliever as a starter. Speaking of relievers, the M’s bullpen got a bit of a shakeup this morning.

While it’s great to have Vogey back (especially in his home state of Florida), losing two power arms out of the bullpen is sub-optimal. It sounds as though Nicasio expects to be back after the required 10 days away, while Diesel Dan may require a longer rehab period.

Either way, the show must go on. Marco Gonzales takes the ball for Seattle, coming off four sterling starts. The lefty’s numbers from those four outings are helping me forget all about that Tyler O’Neill fellow.

26 IP, 1 ER, 0.35 ERA, 18 K, 9 BB, 16 hits, .180 opponents’ batting average

The Rays feel like a team that’s just a couple losses from completely unraveling. I would love if the Mariners were the team to pull that thread that spins them into nothingness.
