In Mariners news...
- It would seem Seattle Times Mariners beat writer Ryan Divish has been coerced into doing a weekly Twitter mailbag. Here’s the first one, which is worth a read. There are some interesting questions and answers in it, many concerning Robinson Canó.
- Speaking of Robinson Canó, the New York Times published this article over the weekend about how the Mariners are doing without him. Boo, national media. Stay away! Nothing to see here!
- Jim Moore wonders what the Mariners are going to do with Félix Hernández. He lays out the options that seem relatively plausible for the team.
- Sure, you might say that this doesn’t bode incredibly well for the rest of the season.
Mariners now MLB-leading 21-9 in one-run games (41-25 overall). It's the most one-run wins in a team's first 65 games of a season since Baseball-Reference data became available in 1908.

- Counterpoint: here’s one big reason they’ve been so successful.

- Some news that, if true, is absolutely devastating for Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels, and most fans of baseball in general. It looks like Ohtani is slated for Tommy John surgery, which certainly cause him to miss the rest of this year, probably cause him to miss all of next year, and possibly mean he isn’t full strength until 2021.
- The Mets have released Adrián González just five months after signing him. Not José Reyes, though. Haha! The Mets are so incompetent!
After tonight’s game we have given Adrián González his unconditional release. On Tuesday, we will designate catcher Jose Lobaton for assignment, will recall Dominic Smith from Las Vegas and will select the contract of Ty Kelly from Las Vegas. #Mets

- A swap of former Mariners means that Brad Miller will (thankfully) not return to the Mariners.
The #Brewers have acquired INF Brad Miller and cash from Tampa Bay in exchange for 1B/OF Ji-Man Choi. Miller has been optioned to Triple-A @skysox. pic.twitter.com/GN01K8p1LS

- Nobody really knows how exactly life came about, but many theories say that it came about first from self-replicating molecules known as RNA. If that theory, or other related ones, proves to be true, then the latest discovery of organic molecules on Mars could have massive implications for the possibility of life on the Red Planet.
