Good morning, baseball fans! We have a rare Monday day game in honor of Memorial Day. But despite the early start, we already have a couple developments:
- Taylor Motter was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins. Bye, Taylor. Good luck in Minnesota, I guess.
- Jean Segura didn’t pass his pre-game concussion test and so was a late scratch from the lineup.
Jean Segura has been scratched from the starting lineup. Guillermo Heredia will now bat leadoff. Andrew Romine will start at shortstop, batting 9th. #Mariners pic.twitter.com/ez5nvCMkbi

Today, perhaps the most fun part about these lineups is that we get to welcome an old friend back to Safeco in Doug Fister. His ERA (4.22) suggests he’s been passable; his FIP (5.35) suggests otherwise.
And after yesterday’s debut for Alex Colomé, today marks Denard Span’s first start as a Mariner. He’ll be playing in left, with Heredia sticking in center and Gamel serving as the fourth outfielder.
Feel free to spend some of your pre-game minutes reading about Colomé thanks to Mario’s wonderful intro article here. Or, if you’re like me, you can watch the college lacrosse national championship currently on ESPN2. Go Yale!
Game time: 1:10pm.
