Tonight’s pitching matchup is a little less dramatic than the fireball-off of Paxton vs. Romero last night, with Jake Odorizzi and Wade LeBlanc facing off on the rubber. The Mariners last faced Odorizzi just over a week and a half ago, when he shut them down over six innings in the rain cloud/walk-in-freezer known as Target Field at the end of The Road Trip We Do Not Speak Of. This time, they’ll have to face him not only without one of their top hitters in Robinson Canó, but also without the sparkplug of their lineup in Dee Gordon, and with Nelson Cruz mired in a slump that sees him slugging just .180 over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, the Mariners will throw Wade LeBlanc out there, who hopefully will continue his tricksy trickiness of trickery. In case you missed it, Connor laid out some of the reasons for LeBlanc’s success this year (this link is worth clicking on just for Tee’s marvelous photoshop), but he’s still Wade LeBlanc, and the Mariners are going to have to scratch together a little more offense to support him than they have over the past few days.
