For as volatile and depressing as this week has felt, the Mariners woke up today with a firm 1.5 game lead for the second Wild Card spot. It doesn’t quite feel real, and it definitely doesn’t feel secure, but it sure feels good to be looking down at the Angels instead of looking up.
Unfortunately, Nelson Cruz got beaned with yet another pitch yesterday. I get that the Tigers aren’t trying to do this, but it sure would be cool if they could learn to pitch. Maybe they should have to pass a proficiency test or something. I don’t know, just lay off of Nelson, please!
This will be the last time the Mariners face the Tigers this year, and Nelson is getting the day off, either to rest a sore arm or to protect him from these garbage Tigers pitchers. That means the rest of the lineup doesn’t look... spectacular.
The good news is that the Mariners are running their second-best starter out there. It’s Wade LeBlanc, but hey. Second-best starter!
