It feels impossible that, having done approximately 20% of the recaps in August-September 2016, this is my first crack at capping of 2018, and yet here we are. Marco Gonzales is here, but Robinson Canó and Nelson Cruz are not. Dee Gordon is the platonic ideal of a DH, apparently, and the Tigers have one of the worst lineups I’ve ever seen on a May roster.

Seattle’s lineup goes roughly seven deep today, so they could desperately use a better showing from Marco Gonzales than the last time these two teams faced off. Marco was strong through five, but as is so often the story, faded late under an onslaught of singles. The Mariners for their part failed to muster nearly any offense against local lad Matthew Boyd, but round two will hopefully turn out better. In case you missed it, this will also be the first time in roughly three years that Ryan Cook has a shot at an MLB appearance. The former All-Star reliever spent all of last year recuperating from injuries and has been both feisty and impressive in Tacoma.
Ryan Cook has been reaching 98 mph as the Rainiers closer. Could make an instant impact in Mariners bullpen, but needs to be handled carefully due to injury history. https://t.co/Tc7HW4ySa6

Most importantly, this game is broadcast on good old-fashioned NOT FACEBOOK.
