To conclude this three-game set, the Mariners square off against old friend(?) J.A. Happ. Happ, as you might recall, was acquired in the 2015 offseason for precisely one Condor, triggering a moderate meLLtdown. While Michael Saunders was hurt for much of 2015, Happ was mediocre incarnate, and was dealt to the Pirates for Adrian Sampson at the deadline.
Of course, THEY ALWAYS GET BETTER WHEN THEY LEAVE, and Happ dominated under the tutelage of Ray Searage, running a 2.19 FIP through 63.1 innings down the stretch. While he parlayed that into a three-year deal with the Blue Jays, he hasn’t come close to that mark since. Happ is nothing to sneeze at, though, and hopefully the M’s righties can get to him.
On another note, neat for Manny Acta!
Scott Servais will not be with the team for the first 2 games in Detroit as he will attend his daughter's grad school graduation. Manny Acta will manage the team in his absence.

With Dee getting the day off, Mitch Haniger bumps up to second in the order, and Ryon Healy is all the way up to fifth! While Andrew Romine starting in left isn’t great, he’s been something resembling a hitter from the right side during his career. We also have a Kendrys Morales sighting! Boo or be indifferent as you will.
