Hey, today I learned that Boyz II Men were actually Mariners fans. Sorry, Phillies.
Well, shoot, folks. Today marks the close of the 2018 Cactus League season aka Spring Training. Feels as though it lasted an eternity, just like fall, winter, and whatever the fuck this garbage spring is. But, fear not, friends. Real baseball is merely TWO sleeps away. Then there is an off-day. Then there is TWO GAMES IN A ROW. Then another off day. Then THREE GAMES IN A ROW. Then another off day. Then FIVE WHOLE GAMES IN A ROW. Then another off day. Then (counts to self) uhhh, SEVENTEEN GAMES IN A ROW, MORE THAN HALF OF WHICH ON THE ROAD.

To be honest, I would be totally fine with every starter taking today off, but there’s something to be said about finishing things out and just continuing to get reps. Ichiro obviously needs the reps since he’s been battling some injuries, so HOPEFULLY he looks fine today. Ichiro starting the season on the DL, though really insignificant in the grand scheme of things, would just be a silly bummer. I don’t want bummers right off the bat. Give me some good feelings at first, at least. Disappointment can come later. Whatever you do, Mariners, DO NOT go 2-8 again to start the season, I beg of you in the name of all that is holy. Just....don’t do that. Please.
Bonus roster move!
The Mariners reassigned OF Kirk Nieuwhenhuis to Minor League camp. That leaves 30 players on roster, though four will go on DL. Final decision coming down to whether Ichiro healthy enough to start season. If not, Motter is other OF option remaining.

Mariners are bringing in veteran OF Jayson Werth on a minor league deal. Werth is going to be in Peoria in the next few days. He'll stay in extended for a while to get in shape before joining Class AAA Tacoma
