After last night’s victory, the Mariners’ playoff hopes still hang by the smallest of threads. What better time for a little Andrew on Andrew action.
M’s starter Andrew Albers has been something of a revelation since his arrival in Seattle, and he’s coming off his best start of the season last Sunday against the Athletics.
His Angels counterpart and fellow southpaw, Andrew Heaney, was an August call-up following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John. He’s shown flashes of dominance in 19.1 innings of work—running a 11.79 K/9 due in large part to a formidable sinker—but has been positively besieged by the long ball, surrendering 11 homers (good for a HR/9 of 5.12) thanks to the little fact that nearly half of his fly balls have gone for home runs.
Woof.
With the lefty Heaney on the mound, Mitch Haniger slides up to the No. 2 spot in the order. Danny Valencia (making just his third start of the month) takes over at first base, while Taylor Motter gets the start in left field.
Lezgo M’s. Hit all of the dingers.
