Mariners Moose Tracks, 8/14/17: Jeanmar Gomez, Chris Sale, and Mark Hamill

MLB: San Francisco Giants at Washington Nationals Michael Owens-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday! It was quite a rough weekend — certainly a hard one for our favorite baseball team too. Hopefully the series didn’t get you down too much. If it did, maybe these links will provide you with some respite.

In Mariners news...

  • The Mariners quietly came to an agreement with the Phillies’ former closer.
  • Rumor has it the M’s have attempted to acquire starting pitcher Ervin Santana, among others.
  • David Phelps is continuing to progress well in his rehab and could return to action as early as Friday.

In Mariners minors news...

  • The Rainiers won in walk-off fashion yesterday! The final score was 2-1.
  • Tacoma wasn’t the only team who won on a walk-off.
  • Tyler Jackson has had a rough start to the season, but the right-hander turned in a solid outing in the Nuts’ victory.

Around the league...

  • Buster Olney wonders what kind of owner Derek Jeter would be if he were to purchase the Marlins.
  • Chris Sale is basically running away with the Cy Young award at this point. But could he win the league’s MVP too?
  • It looks like Bryce Harper might not be out of action for long as initially thought.

Anders’ picks...

  • I think Mark Hamill’s dad jokes on Twitter are some of my favorite things on the internet.
