Tonight, at Safeco Field, the Seattle Mariners will attempt to not be swept.
To this end, Ariel Miranda will be doing his darndest to give the M’s a chance against a middling Kansas City Royals lineup that lit up King Félix like a Roman candle yesterday afternoon.
On the mound for KC is our old friend Jason Vargas, who by some ex-Mariner karmic supervention is headed to this year’s All-Star Game on the back of a league-best 12 wins and 2.22 ERA (though his FIP of 3.49 is ever so slightly more pedestrian, good for 7th among qualifying AL starters).
Meanwhile, after going hitless in his last four games, Kyle Seager has the day off—let’s hope the southpaw Vargas serves up a few softballs to Taylor Motter starting at third base in his stead.
Here’s to leaving Jason hanging one more time.
