Mariners Moose Tracks, 7/31/17: Trade Deadline, Adrian Beltre, and Stick Rizzs

Good morning everyone and happy Trade Deadline day! A lot of stuff happened yesterday, but a lot more things will probably happen today. By the time you see this post, there will probably be like forty notable pieces of news that happened that I didn’t include. I’ll try my best to get to everything we’ve got so far.

In Mariners news...

• In case you missed it, the Mariners DFA’d D.J. Peterson to make room for Erasmo Ramirez on the MLB roster.
• The Rangers have claimed infielder Tyler Smith off waivers from the M’s.
• The maple tree has a name. And a Twitter account.

In Mariners minors news...

• The Rainiers were the only Mariners minor league team who won yesterday. Thyago Vieira was terrific too!

Around the league...

• A’s manager Bob Melvin recently won his 1,000th game as an MLB skipper. Congrats, Bob!
• Former Mariners farmhand Luiz Gohara made his Triple-A (!) debut, but it didn’t go quite as planned.
• It’s the season of the intra-division trade; Melky Cabrera will head to Kansas City for the remainder of the summer.
• Awwwww!

• Lance McCullers has been really bad lately for some reason.
• Adrian Beltre got his 3,000th career hit!

• The Hall of Fame Class of 2017 was officially inducted yesterday.
• The Rockies have acquired catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Rangers for a PTBNL.
• There should be more female commentators in baseball and all sports, writes Doug Glanville.
