Hello there! Did you enjoy your day off from baseball yesterday? Jerry Dipoto seems to view off days as an opportunity to follow through on all of his trade targets, as evidenced by the many moves and acquisitions today. Did you miss Erasmo Ramirez? I did not, but I'm willing to give him a second shot because he is better than Danny Farquhar, whom I was certain was destined to return to us. While we're talking about missing folks, have a drink for poor Tyler Smith, who was released this afternoon. When I was in the clubhouse he walked by and I thought he was a batboy.
Tonight kicks off a three game interleague series against the New York Mets, who last visited Safeco Field in 2014. As Jake outlined in his magnificent preview, the Mets have been allllmost as snake bitten with injuries as the Mariners have, but unfortunately for them they play in the National League, which means it's July and they're essentially already out of playoff contention. Be grateful for the DH, and for Al mediocrity.
There's little of note to report with this lineup, except that Jarrod Dyson is back from his weird toe injury, and Guillermo Heredia is back on the bench, which automatically makes this a Bad lineup. But hey, you know what makes this a Fun lineup? The triumphant Safeco return of Yoenis Céspedes. I hope the Mariners score 10+ runs, Ariel Miranda throws 8 scoreless innings, and that then Yo crushes a monstrous solo home run off of * squints at series of recent roster moves * Lawrence Martin?
Happy Friday, and Go M's!
