Pedialyte for the Canada Day King please

The Mariners probably shouldn’t win many games Sam Gaviglio starts, but they also should probably score some runs when he pitches. The Mariners should probably win many games that James Paxton pitches, but they also need to score some runs when he starts. Today Pax will have a chance to get his first win since June 6th and he’ll have a chance to avenge fellow lefty Marc Rzepczynski for his defeat in battle with Luis Valbuena last night. Nelson Cruz is out, but has no structural damage in his knee and is just day-to-day, and could return in the next few days. Boog Powell is here in the interim, sending Max Povse back down for his first career stint in AAA.

Boog Powell getting the call over Daniel Vogelbach for DH-ing is quite the commentary on the organization’s frustration with Vogey. On the one hand, Powell has pretty handilyout-hit Vogelbach this year and has far more utility as a defender/pinch-runner:

But woof, this does not seem to bode well for Vogelbach’s immediate or long-term future with the Mariners.
