Friends, the Mariners are playing some good and fun baseball right now. In June, the Mariners have scored the most runs in baseball. Mike Zunino has the most RBIs in baseball and we are looking forward to his at-bats. Joe DiMaggio is haunting Ben Gamel's body. Haniger and Segura are proving they're not actually the same person after all, Felix is back, and Andrew Moore is here (even if he's not here right now), and things feel pretty, pretty good. A six-game winning streak always does.
Tonight will probably not feel as good. The last time the Mariners faced Lance McCullers it went--not well. When they faced Lance McCullers in April, he gave up exactly one run and struck out seven over six innings. The Mariners looked lost against McCullers's curveball, which, to be fair, is the best curve in baseball. This promises to be an especially tough matchup for Nelson Cruz, who is slugging just .100 off McCullers. Ruiz gets the start over Zunino, which is probably for the best. Meanwhile, Sam Gaviglio and his 5.83 FIP will take on an aggressive Astros lineup looking for atonement after having their hindquarters served up to them by an electric Mariners team last night. Tonight is going to be tough, is what I'm saying. But hey, it's Turn Back the Clock night, there's going to be some fun hijinks afoot, and you never know what can happen.
