Somehow the Mariners haven't made a roster move today, so it feels kind of quiet... Too quiet...
I spoke too soon! I wrote the above statement in my business law class because I wanted to get a little head start. The Mariners traded Casey Fien to the Phillies this morning in exchange for cash considerations.
The Mariners begin their two-game set in Philadelphia today, marking the first of a six-game road trip. I scanned the roster to see if any active Mariners were born in Pennsylvania; the survey says Dan Altavilla is the only one. He grew up in McKeesport, which is a cool, calm 292 miles from Philadelphia. This confuses me, because I didn't think any state on the East Coast had an area greater than, I don't know, 15 square miles.
Ariel Miranda will take the bump today in place of Hisashi Iwakuma, who will start on Thursday instead. Fun fact, every single game thread I've done has been for a game with Miranda pitching. Talk about consistency.
Over his last two starts, Miranda has struck out 12 batters in 12.1 innings, while only allowing only three runs. Here's to another great outing.
