It was a beautiful morning in Tacoma, where the plethora of Triple-A Tacoma relievers lined up for their daily selection to Seattle.

Today’s choice is RHP Christian Bergman, who up to this point has been stellar in the Rainiers rotation. In five starts (29.0 IP), Bergman managed a 7.45 K/9, 1.86 BB/9, 3.17 FIP, and 3.75 xFIP.

He primarily works with a fastball-changeup-cutter/slider-curveball combination and mixes all of them in fairly well. One of his biggest issues in Colorado was keeping the ball in the ballpark, but as we’ve seen with RHP Chase De Jong, Safeco lends the friendliest of hands with that issue.

Heading down to Tacoma is Rob Whalen, who came and went without ever throwing a pitch in a Mariners uniform. Given the current circumstances, I expect he’ll be back very soon. He has made one start for Tacoma this year, throwing 4.2 shutout innings on May 1st.

In a final bit of news, RHP Shae Simmons has been transferred to the 60-Day DL. Simmons suffered an elbow strain back in March and hasn’t really been heard from since. This is the fourth consecutive season featuring a lengthy stay on the disabled list for the hard-throwing righty.
