Mariners Moose Tracks, 5/4/17: Dan Vogelbach, Manny Machado, and LeBron James

Time to get your day started with some links!

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves
I couldn’t tell you this was Matt Harvey if the image caption didn’t say so

Good morning everyone! As I’m writing this, I have no idea who won yesterday’s baseball game. Ignorance is bliss. It’s also the night before (sorry, the secret’s out).

Anyway, here are some links to get your day started.

In Mariners news...

  • Casey Fien cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Tacoma.
  • Scott Servais still believes in Dan Vogelbach long term, writes Bob Dutton at the Tacoma News Tribune.

Around the league...

  • Continuing the frightening pattern, Corey Kluber is hitting the DL with a back strain.
  • Cole Hamels will also be missing time with an oblique strain. He’s likely to be out for around eight weeks.
  • A pretty scary moment for this fan at a Cardinals game, who was hit by a stray bullet.
  • Observe the world’s most awkward interview.
  • It’s looking like Noah Syndergaard is going to miss around three months with his lat injury. But of course he’s going to seek a second opinion.
  • Minor League Ball profiles University of Oregon’s ace David Peterson, who should be drafted this year.
  • The Cubs’ World Series trophy is already broken.
  • This Manny Machado vs. Red Sox debacle is insane. Grant Brisbee breaks it all down in wonderful fashion.
  • The Orioles-Red Sox situation escalated when Kevin Gausman was ejected yesterday for throwing at Xander Bogaerts.
  • The Mets and Mariners are very similar this year. The Mets have a number of injuries to their starting rotation (Syndergaard, Matz, Lugo), outfield (Cespedes), and infield (Wright, d’Arnaud, Duda, Flores). Now Matt Harvey sucks too. Travis Sawchik checks in on the Mets’ struggling ace.
  • Mitch Haniger will have some competition when he gets back from injury. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge just won Rookie of the Month for his ridiculous month of April. He leads baseball in home runs.

Anders’ picks...

  • The Ringer’s Rodger Sherman wonders if the NBA’s Morris twins cheated in a game the other day.
  • LeBron James has beef with Great Lakes Brewing Company because the beer corporation used Lebron’s likeness in an advertisement without his permission.
