The Mariners managed to skate past having to face several tough pitchers this road trip, but their luck runs out as today nu-metal enthusiast/half of Seattle's grumpy old men tandem Christian Bergman squares off against last year's Cy Young winner Rick Porcello. This one might sting some.
It's a day that ends in y, so we have a roster move:
#Mariners promote RHP Ryne Harper from Triple-A Tacoma. Option RHP Rob Whalen to the Rainiers.
— Bob Dutton (@TNT_Mariners) May 28, 2017
Harper has been reliable in Tacoma, posting a K/9 of around 12. He has struggled with his command a little this year, which is uncharacteristic for him, but his wipeout curveball has been enough to get him past PCL batters. He doesn't throw hard at all, and his success will depend on if he can use his fastball to get to the curveball. But he's been consistent throughout his minors career and it's time he got a shot. Luckily, the bar for "complete embarrassment" is pretty low.
Lineups!
Gametime today is 10:35 on ROOT, if you would like to watch, although maybe you could watch a bird today instead, marvel at the delicate architecture of its nest. You can listen on 710 ESPN, or go to the sea and listen to the secrets the waves have to tell you instead.
