There are many parts of running Lookout Landing that I enjoy, but being duty bound to do all the recaps on a beautiful holiday weekend when the Mariners are playing bad baseball is not one of them. Sometimes situations just suck, though, and you have to make the best of them. For example, I will be replaying in my mind the Twitter exchange I had where a sassy Braves fan told me Rob Whalen would never see time in the majors as a Mariner. Guess again, bucko. I mean, it's the most monkey's paw way of having that come true, but STILL. Like I said, take lemons, make garbagewater lemonade. Or as Isabelle said, "Danny Valencia is batting second against a lefty!" So, the little things.
Rob Whalen was okay in Tacoma. The encouraging part is he got a little better each outing. The other encouraging part is both his arms are still attached to his body. Brian Johnson is also okay. This might be a high-scoring game. Unfortunately, judging from the Mariners' offensive wimpiness the past weeks, it might be the Red Sox doing all the scoring.
