The Mariners rotation has been through hell, but the last couple games the starters have gotten them through the fire and flames, with over 14 straight innings of shutout ball by the starting five. That's downright bonkers from a staff anchored by 2017 Yovani Gallardo and featuring walking TBA's Christian Bergman and Sam Gaviglio. The bullpen, meanwhile, has been absolutely putrid, and last night's ultimately exhilarating walk-off was only necessary due to Dan Altavilla following up a Tuesday night of dominance with a Thursday night of damnation. According to Scott Servais, Tony Zych and Steve Cishek were unavailable, which is hopefully not the case tonight, since Zych and *heaves* Nick Vincent are the two RHP relievers that I trust at the moment.
Ariel Miranda continuing the trend of competency from the rotation would not only reduce work on a Mariners' bullpen that is 3rd in the league in appearances and 3rd-worst in FIP ( 5.07 ). That he faces José Quintana is a bummer, even if the White Sox ace has been slightly diminished thus far this year.
One of my favorite pieces of entertainment came to a close yesterday, and I am in satisfied mourning. I don't know if any of you watch Car Boys, run by Polygon's Griffin McElroy and Nick Robinson, but it is a delight. If you've got some time and want to watch an incredible physics simulator (BeamNG.drive) be messed with by two hilarious, lovable goofballs, Car Boys is the show for you (Cussin Alert). Let me know what y'all think, or if any of you are also fans!
