Optimism abounds on this holy day of baseball, and it should. There will be 161 more of these games for letting pessimism and doubt slowly (or quickly) creep back into our psyches. But, today is Opening Day and it’s okay to be unabashedly excited if you want to be. My dad always likes to repeat what his father said every time opening day came around for the Washington Senators (RIPx2). Plain and simple, Opening Day means we made it through another winter. In the oldest human traditions of honoring seasons, I’d say it’s worth celebrating.

Personally, this season is a line in the sand for me. My wife and I had our first child in early February. There was baseball before my daughter was in my life and now there’s baseball with her in the world, too. Made it through another winter, indeed.

Two things:

This should be cranked loud wherever you are right now. Pretend Tom Hutyler is making pre-game announcements. Go to your favorite green field of the mind. Smell the fragrant garlic fries and beer.

Followed by this, because HAPPY FIRST FELIX DAY OF 2017, FOLKS. SUNSHINE & LOLLIPOPS FOR ALL.

And now, introducing your 2017 Seattle Mariners!

Reminder on Game Thread Etiquette

  • If you are new, LURK HARD before posting. Get a feel for the room.
  • No politics, no religion, and treat the place like you’ve been invited over to a good friend’s house.
  • Back up your assertions with data, especially when it comes to old traditional versus sabermetrics arguments.

Okay, now get to game threadin’ and GO MARINERS/GOBIZ/GOMS.
