The Mariners attempt to outsnake Danny Salazar.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

When appraising this series, today's game seemed like the Mariners' best shot at a victory. Danny Salazar is healthy and has been terrorizing hitters this season, but Yovani Gallardo has looked more like 2012-2015 Yovani than 2016 Yovani, which is to say healthy and fine. The nearly inexplicable ability for the Mariners to subvert our expectations in all ways good and bad continued last night, however, and with Ariel Miranda spitting in the face of Voros McCracken, the M's have a shot at sneaking out of April around .500. The weather may have other ideas about today's game, with forecasts projecting rain all afternoon. Would I be devastated if the Mariners had to reschedule today's game to a later point in the season where they were potentially healthier? No, I think not. Still, weird weather games are always interesting, and could allow the speedy Mariners to wreak havoc on Cleveland as they fumble for a grip on the ball. Speaking of speed, new call-up Boog Powell is not in the lineup today, but adds some depth to the Mariners bench, and allows for a sub that is not a catcher or 1B only. With an offday Monday I wouldn't be surprised to see Powell's time short lived and simply as insurance with Nelson Cruz still a touch gimpy, but for now the 8-man bullpen is dead.
