Good morning.... BASEBALL

Set the alarm for when, Scott? No, no that will not do.

Lest you develop the conception that the east coast gives a damn about anything convenient, there is Mariners baseball this morning. Yes it's Wednesday (close enough) Thursday, what of it? Detroit doesn't care about your schedule or inexplicable attachment to this silly, lovable, mercurial franchise. You'll have a pre-lunch game of baseball and you'll like it (or, plausibly, you won't). Hisashi Iwakuma has been miserable and unencouraging for many obvious reasons this season, unlike several of his teammates who have been more enigmatically underwhelming. Jered Weaver-like velocity and Jeff Weaver-like command is not a winning combo. After watching the swing-happy Tigers pepper Félix Hernández and Chris Heston who employ similarly contact-based arsenals, I am less than encouraged by today's matchup. The shaky start of Justin Verlander and the emergence of the explosive Mariners' offense we expected this season lends me optimism that the fireworks will be shared evenly, however.

If you have a chance to watch or listen, I don't think you'll be bored, if nothing else. Unfortunately, the tarp is currently on the field, so we may be in for a wait. The Tigers appear to be trying to use the weather to their advantage and have not revealed their lineup, but I will update it as they reveal their treachery.

update: Lineups!

Today's Lineups

SEATTLE MARINERS DETROIT TIGERS
Jean Segura - SS Ian Kinsler - 2B
Taylor Motter - 1B Tyler Collins - CF
Robinson Cano - 2B Nick Castellanos - 3B
Nelson Cruz - DH Victor Martinez - DH
Kyle Seager - 3B Justin Upton - LF
Ben Gamel - RF Alex Avila - 1B
Guillermo Heredia - LF Jim Adduci - RF
Carlos Ruiz - C James McCann - C
Jarrod Dyson - CF Jose Iglesias - SS
Hisashi Iwakuma - RHP Justin Verlander - RHP

Watch it prior to the NFL Draft coverage at least, it may be the only reprieve you'll get for a few days. This lineup is fearsome, though it does result in a bench consisting of two first basemen and a catcher. Here goes nothing.
