In which the Mariners play a baseball game just to "keep you around"

Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

Today, believe it or not, the Mariners play a baseball game. I really couldn't blame you if you needed to take a few days (or weeks) away from this team. Of course, however, James Paxton is pitching today. If it were anyone else, I would skip this game and feel absolutely great about that decision. The decision to watch this game doesn't feel great. If you're watching, you might just be the special kind of sick and twisted required to follow this team. Maybe the team made you this way. Maybe you follow this team because you're this way. It's kind of a chicken-and-egg situation, except sad and perverse.

Anyway, lineups! Now featuring Ben Gamel!

Today's Lineups

Jean Segura - SS Ian Kinsler - 2B
Guillermo Heredia - LF Mikie Mahtook - RF
Robinson Cano - 2B Nick Castellanos - 3B
Nelson Cruz - DH Victor Martinez - DH
Taylor Motter - 3B Justin Upton - LF
Danny Valencia - 1B John Hicks - 1B
Ben Gamel - RF James McCann - C
Mike Zunino - C Dixon Machado - SS
Jarrod Dyson - CF Andrew Romine - CF
James Paxton - LHP Daniel Norris - LHP

We made jokes during certain spring training games when Guillermo Heredia, Ben Gamel, Mike Freeman, and Taylor Motter all played during the same game. Well, today we've got three out of four, and it feels slightly less funny. Fortunately, Motter and Heredia have played like actual baseball humans so far this year.
