Good morning everyone! Moose Tracks and Mariners baseball both took breaks yesterday, but both are back and ready to go! Here’s what you need to know to start your day.
In Mariners news...
- The Mariners will take the sabermetric route and use Edwin Diaz in an ace-of-the-bullpen role rather than strictly as a ninth-inning closer.
- Taylor Motter is turning into Brian Dozier according to Jeff Sullivan at Fangraphs. I didn’t even realize how good Motter has been in his limited action this year.
- Mariners minor league reliever Jonathan Aro got slapped with a PED suspension.
PED suspensions: Mariners AAA RHP Jonathan Aro (50 games), Indians AAA RHP Steve Delabar (80 games), FA RHP Jeffry Hernandez (80 games).

- Felix Hernandez is now not only pitching for himself, but for veterans in America as well.
- Marc W at U.S.S. Mariner did some book-keeping yesterday, discussing topics such as Leonys Martin and Jean Segura.
Around the league...
- I’m always a fan of baseball expanding its footprint to new countries, so this news is particularly cool to me.
Dovydas Neverauskas makes his Major League debut tonight.

- Halos Heaven is sick of Cameron Maybin and Ben Revere, who have been terrible so far for the Angels.
- Former Mariners reliever Steve Delabar has been suspended for 80 games due to PEDs.
- The Twins made the hilarious and awesome decision to use kid-drawn photos of players on the jumbotron during its game on Sunday.
- Addison Russell has been collecting Pokémon cards all season long and is getting opposing players to sign them.
- Meg Rowley at Baseball Prospectus broke down the altercation that took place between Matt Barnes and Manny Machado. Barnes was suspended for four games for his actions.
- Jen Mac Ramos at Fangraphs talked about Major League Baseball’s “Trailblazer Series,” an effort by the league to increase female turnout in the sport.
- The Angels have acquired reliever David Hernandez from the Braves.
- Eric Thames hit two more home runs yesterday to raise his season total to 10.
- The Good Phight thinks the Phillies should transition former top pitching prospect Mark Appel to the bullpen.
Anders’ picks...
- Legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be retiring after the season.
