The Mariners take on the Rangers, mariachi bands, and rumble ponies

Hello! It’s Monday, and Monday sucks. Here’s something that doesn’t suck: it’s Leonys Martín’s birthday, and the team hired a mariachi band to follow him around. Check out Divish’s twitter feed for more:

This seems silly, but it apparently meant a lot to Leonys, who got a little choked up talking about what coming to the Mariners and working under Servais has meant to him.

Today the Mariners face Leonys’s former team, the Rangers.

Slated for relief innings, if you are a nerd like me and care about this stuff: Hagadone, Martin, Machi, Povse, Brett Ash, Tyler Herb, and winning the contest for the first “Mariner I didn’t know was a Mariner,” something called a Paul Paez. Seriously, what is a Paul Paez? Apparently he was claimed off waivers this December from the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. I swear I’m not making any of this up.

The game is on TV, so if you have ROOT, you will be able to check out Drew Smyly in person, which is exciting. The audio broadcast on 710 is delayed until 7 PM tonight, so if you’re at work and your jerk boss won’t let you listen to games, you’ll have a chance to catch up tonight. So no spoilers, everyone, okay?
