2/27: Open Game Thread

There is the threat of rain in Arizona this afternoon, so instead of tempting the apocalypse, the Royals and Mariners have agreed to move the start time up an hour, inconveniencing players, fans, and media celebrities alike. Just put a roof on these stadiums in the desert and get it over with, gosh.

Yovani Gallardo — better known as Not Jason Hammel — will be making his Mariners “debut” today, which would be exciting if he was someone we looked forward to watching every five days. Robinson Cano will have the day off, and Taylor Motter will work in his place at second base; expect to see Motter at a variety of positions this spring as the club tries to better gauge what he can handle. Nelson Cruz will also be sitting this one out, and Tyler Marlette is our Designated Will Try To Hit.
