The free agent period is open. Here are the 2017 Mariners who are free agents:

  • 1B Yonder Alonso has elected free agency
  • INF Gordon Beckham has elected free agency
  • OF Jarrod Dyson has elected free agency
  • C Carlos Ruiz has elected free agency
  • 1B Danny Valencia has elected free agency

As expected, the Mariners declined options on a pair of starting pitchers who fell short of expectations in 2017.

  • Mariners decline $10M team option on RHP Hisashi Iwakuma, pay $1M buyout

Per our own John Trupin, teams cannot keep players on the disabled list once the offseason is underway, and as such, the M’s activated two pitchers who appeared in a combined 10 games in their first year with the M’s.

  • Mariners activate RHP David Phelps from 60-day disabled list
  • Mariners activate LHP Drew Smyly from 60-day disabled list
