Even though Jerry has already made a couple acquisitions since their season ended, he made his first move of the *official* offseason today, claiming super-duper utilityman Andrew Romine off waivers from the Detroit Tigers. Romine made waves at the end of September when he became just the fifth player in Major League history to play all nine positions in one game.
Romine, who posted a 0.00 ERA and 0.00 WHIP in 2017, induced a weak grounder from Miguel Sano in his 0.1 inning pitching performance.
On a more serious note, the switch-hitting ASU alum, who debuted with the Angels in 2010, was traded to Detroit in March of 2014 and had a mostly non-noteworthy four year stint with the team, peaking with a 0.9 fWAR season in 2015, and bottoming out in 2017 when he was good for -0.4 fWAR.
As it stands now, he’ll enter camp in competition with Taylor Motter and Shawn O’Malley for the backup utility role for the M’s in 2018.
