Mid-afternoon baseball is weird. It hits right in the middle of whatever you happen to be enjoying on this non-rainy Saturday, and it's that weird in between where you've not given yourself over to day drinking, but your usual bar is probably pretty empty and oddly lit. But hey, baseball is baseball is baseball, and we've only got a few more games left to enjoy.
Ariel Miranda is looking to build off a quality start in his last outing, wherein he finally vanquished whatever demons lurked for him in the seventh inning. He's facing off against this ramshackle group in Minnesota, and hopefully we'll be able to see him confident enough again to really start going after guys, as he did last week. Facing off against Miranda is Tyler Duffey, who looks precisely like what you think a Tyler Duffey might look like, and pitches precisely like what you would expect from the Minnesota Twins at the tail end of a hugely disappointing season. But despite all that, I'm sure he'll manage to strike out Adam Lind and Ketel Marte at least twice a piece (this is called reverse psychology, let's see if they're amenable). Why these two are regularly making starts on a team that is desperately fighting for a wildcard spot is beyond me. If you have any suggestions please write them early on in the comments, because I've found that things in these threads usually get a little weird by the fifth inning.
Also, Wade Miley is starting for the Orioles today, and a Baltimore loss coupled with an M's win would do wonders for the standings. So let's hope Wade is up to his secret agent best.
