Let's have a party.

Welcome back to our ongoing Ken Griffey Jr. extravaganza. We kicked off the weekend with an excellent mixture of old stars and new hope leading the way, and with Taijuan Walker coming back off the DL, hopefully that can continue. Unfortunately, the Angels will be trotting out probably their stiffest challenge available (which is, admittedly, not saying much at the moment) in recently healthy left-hander Tyler Skaggs. Just as last night's starters were a strange mirror matchup, tonight has two young players with great potential but inconsistent production facing off.

Today's Lineups

LOS ANGELES ANGELS SEATTLE MARINERS
Yunel Escobar - 3B Guillermo Heredia - LF
Kole Calhoun - RF Franklin Gutierrez - RF
Mike Trout - CF Robinson Cano - 2B
Albert Pujols - DH Nelson Cruz - DH
Andrelton Simmons - SS Dae-Ho Lee - 1B
Ji-Man Choi - LF Kyle Seager - 3B
Jefry Marte - 1B Chris Iannetta - C
Carlos Perez - C Leonys Martin - CF
Johnny Giavotella - 2B Shawn O'Malley - SS
Tyler Skaggs - LHP Taijuan Walker - RHP

This could be the most attended Mariners game ever, which is a weird thing to consider. There will be pomp. There will be circumstance. There will be a lot of 24s (though unfortunately those on the players will be solely during batting practice) and backwards caps.

Are some of you in Griffey overload? this is Griffey weekend in what has been Griffey month during Griffey year. Today I woke up uncertain if I had the same enthusiasm I had a few weekends ago, or even last night, within me.

At the same time, today and tomorrow are the final page of our favorite childhood book, and we know there is no sequel coming. Let's savor and cherish this, even if we already know the ending. Then lets tuck into a promising new series, the one with the proud, veteran King, the powerful, joyful, stick-wielding warriors, and the young dragon prince who breathes fire with a gleaming, toothy grin.

Gametime: 6:40 PM PT (Moved back!)

Griffey's Number Retirement Ceremony: 5:30 PM PT (On ROOT or can be streamed on Mariners.com live. M's will also have full ceremony video available on the site after the game.)

Tele: ROOTNW or FS-W

Radi: 710 ESPN Seattle, 910 KMTT Portland, Tunein.com, MLB.tv

We've had precious few major positive things to let loose for as a fan base since 1977. Let's light Safeco and Seattle and the whole PNW up tonight. We've earned it.
