Ariel Miranda vs. Drew Pomeranz

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Tonight is the night I'm certain you've all been waiting for, as Ariel Miranda takes the mound against Drew Pomeranz and the top ranked offense in baseball. There have been jokes aplenty about both Miranda's first and last names, but if you're looking for some more substantial #content check out Nathan's write-up from earlier today. We'll probably see some dingers tonight. Hopefully the Mariners have more of those than the Red Sox do, since that seems to be the only way they score anymore. A win this evening gives them a much-needed series win, and a three game win streak to start the next series against the Angels. A loss means they lose another baseball game. But either way we get to say goodbye to the Sawx fans after tonight.

Some interesting things to ponder in the next hour:

* Guillermo Heredia is batting lead-off again, which means that with Leonys Martin in his regular spot in center, and Miranda on the mound, tonight's starting lineup for the Seattle Mariners is 30% Cuban. This is a particularly high number when you consider that, according to Baseball-Reference, there are only 28 Cuban players in the majors right now

* Lookout Landing's very own John Trupin, though not of Irish decent, will be throwing out the first pitch tonight. Please place your bets in the comments below about the most likely outcome. My money's on a 57 MPH curve, but I hear there's a good pay-off to be had if he falls over

* Is Jerry a medical warlock?
