One very important announcement from today:
Padres will be sending cash to mariners in the Luis sardinas exchange
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) August 18, 2016
My condolences go out to those who were hoping for Wil Myers or Travis Jankowski.
Moving on, the Mariners take on the Angels in the final game of a four-game series, sending Hisashi Iwakuma to the hill. The Angels will counter with Matt Shoemaker, who has been a sturdy force in their rotation for three months now (2.77 FIP and 3.61 xFIP since May 21st). Shoemaker last pitched against the Mariners eleven days ago, surrendering three runs and seven hits in seven innings in a 3-1 Mariners victory.
In case you missed it, the Mariners managed to a win a game last night that featured Cody Martin starting on the mound, Arquimedes Caminero pitching for the fourth time in five days, and Mike Trout batting in what felt like every single inning from the sixth inning on. All I ask from Iwakuma is some stability. All I ask from the offense is a 20-run outburst so there is zero temptation to throw Caminero. All I ask from Ketel Marte is, oh hey he's not starting today. Get some rest, Ketel. I have no idea why they're playing you so much.
Goms.
