Sean Manaea vs. wait what

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

After a restful off-day, the Mariners hope to continue their hot streak against the struggling Athletics. In order to do this the Mariners will look to Joe Wieland, whom they just called up from Tacoma, DFA-ing Small Person/Grit Machine Daniel "Dan" Robertson to make room for Wieland on the roster. Wieland has been...a pitcher for the Rainiers. Look it's probably better we don't look too deeply into this. Andrew wrote up Wieland earlier today, and if you're really hungry to know more you can look back at Brendan's piece from the 40 in 40 series. While we haven't seen Wieland up with the big club this season, it's pretty safe to say he's not a dominant pitcher and won't miss many bats, so his command needs to be on point and he needs a leg up from the offense. None of this three-run sleepiness, fellas.

Hopefully the off-day recharged the bats and the team remains loose and confident. Early indications are positive:

In other off-day news, Ketel went to dinner with Aoki and Iwakuma, and Leonys and Díaz were ticked about not being invited. Edwin appears to have gotten over it, though. I love this team.

Lineups!

Today's Lineups

SEATTLE MARINERS OAKLAND A'S

Robinson Cano - 2B Stephen Vogt - C
Nelson Cruz - DH Khris Davis - DH

Mike Zunino - C Jake Smolinski - CF
Leonys Martin - CF Ryon Healy - 3B
Ketel Marte - SS Max Muncy - 2B

Wieland should be familiar with Zunino from Tacoma, so hopefully that will help ease any jitters he might be feeling. O'Malley gets the call over Aoki to face the lefty Manaea, as does Dae-Ho.
