Despite the absolute train wreck that was yesterday's game, I was prepared to write a somewhat hopeful intro to this game thread. I was going to cite the fact that although this team has been struggling for the last month and a half, they're still only five games out of the playoffs. Sure there are four teams between them and the second wild card spot, but with 70 games still remaining on the schedule it's not difficult to find reasons to remain hopeful... but then I saw that Scott Servais has decided to hit Dan Robertson leadoff tonight against Chris Sale and mannnn. What? Why? That is a weird and bad thing. Maybe it's their best option (it's not), but if that really is the case mentioning "Mariners" and "playoffs" in the same sentence feels kinda silly. Of course maybe Robertson will go 2 for 5 tonight with not bad defense and Servais will look like a smarty pants and I'll look like a noob. Let's hope that happens.
Since their hot start (they were 23-10 in mid-May), the White Sox have posted a winning percentage of 0.379 over their last ~60 games. That is terrible. However, Chris Sale has been the opposite of terrible and it is him whom the Mariners face off against tonight. Seattle counters with Wade LeBlanc who pitched great! and then good and then bad in his last three starts. To give the M's a chance to win tonight, Wade will likely have to put together a superb performance. Maybe he'll do this and Seattle will manage to snag the W? We'll see!
