Blessings to Edwin Diaz.

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

(Ed's note - As the season has progressed we have seen a large influx of newer community members and commenters. Firstly, hello, and welcome to Lookout Landing. Secondly, inevitably this leads to a larger than usual amount of friction between people who have been here for a very, very, long time, and people who think this is just another place on the internet. As such, a few items of order:

1. Lookout Landing is a very old community, by internet standards. If you are new here, please read this, this, and this. Please keep in mind when participating in discussion here that Lookout Landing is not a forum, chatroom, blogspot, geocities, newspaper comment thread, or anything else. It does not exist as a repository for whatever anger, vitriol, bad, gross, unfunny, sexist, racist thought, or any other kind of garbage you choose to spew. If you are looking for that, LL is not for you. Almost literally the ENTIRE REST OF THE INTERNET is, however. You have many choices.

2. In particular this friction seems to be popping up more than usual in game threads. Neither myself, nor the staff, nor even CapSea, First Moderator of the King Beyond The Sea, Wielder of the Almighty Banhammer, and Keeper of the Tomes of Knowledge and Lore have the necessary time and energy to keep every thread under control. In response to this issue, long-standing commenter and community member Sweezo has kindly volunteered his services as Moderator. He has now been granted mod powers and will be cutting through the heathen masses like a scythe born of the sharpened edge of the Scales of Justice. If Sweezo bans you, you done screwed up. Don't come clamoring to me to complain.

As you likely saw this morning, Edwin Diaz is up with the big league club and on debut watch. After the loss of Tony Zych, having a right-handed eater of worlds in the pen would be an excellent complement to Steve Cishek and Joaquin Benoit, especially since Diaz can play the roll of fireman and go multiple innings. He's not Dellin Betances, but if he's mini-Dellin we'll all be very happy.

But, that may not happen today! What we know will happen is Nate Karns taking the mound against the Rangers looking for a seventh straight solid outing. Karns has yet to face the Rangers this season, but had mixed results against a semi-similar Texas lineup last year that I'm sure you'll hear all about. Karns has actually fared very well in unfriendly ballparks this year -- Houston, New York, Baltimore -- so hopefully that streak continues tonight.

The Rangers are rolling with Martin Perez, a left-handed starter who has never lived up to his billing. Perez always had the excuse of youth when his minor league numbers didn't match his stuff, but he's never shown us anything else, and is a mid-rotation starter at best. Hopefully our lord and savior Dae-Ho Lee will make him pay for a mistake or two tonight.
