Today the Mariners will attempt to sweep the Cardinals, which is a surprising sentence to type. Today's matchup features two left-handed pitchers who have both struggled with injury but shown promise when they're actually on the mound. Jaime García is a go-to fantasy draft for me because he almost always makes it deep enough into games to qualify for a QS and racks up a good amount of strikeouts. This year has been a bit of a struggle for him as the defense behind him hasn't been stellar, which is partially why his FIP is in the mid-3s while his ERA hovers much closer to 4. Shawn O'Malley, who is hitting .231 against lefties, gets the start today while Seth Smith gets some time to mow the grass and recover from the sight of that idiot fan's pasty legs pinwheeling at him last night.
Last night saw all my dreams realized when Mike Montgomery was awarded the Swelmet, and took what is easily the best/most goobery Swelfie we've seen yet. We have not yet seen Nelson Cruz's majestic eyebrows peering from beneath the Swelmet, and I feel it is time. Make it happen, Nelson.
