(Ed's note. There's a very good chance this game will not happen. Rain is a necessity for our way of life, but unfortunately is not ideal for playing a sport that involves throwing a hard object very, very fast. If the game does get cancelled, consider this your official opening of Friday Night Club LL. Go crazy. But not, you know, too crazy.)
Today, our wonderful Mariners will open up a three game series on the road in Cincinnati -- provided it actually stops raining at some point -- and Hisashi Iwakuma is on the mound. Starting the series for the Reds will be Dealin' Dan Straily, a fly-balling righty in a ballpark not exactly suited for his skills. You may remember Dealin' Dan from his time with the Athletics, with whom he was relatively effective in 2013. Since then...not so much. The Mariners should be able to jump all over him in the bandbox known as Great American Ballpark.
Most importantly, pitchers will be hitting for the next few days, and we'll get a chance to see how our new manager fares in a foreign environment against our old pitching coach. Perhaps Scott Servais will manage his pinch-hitters and bullpen like a champion, but probably not, and that's okay! We'll be out of the communist hell hole that is the NL shortly.
Elsewhere in the AL West, we may be forced to root for the Lastros as they take on the second-place Texas Rangers. The Orioles, whom the Ms just got done demolishing, will be heading to LA to face the Angels, and the A's are squaring off with the Yankees.
