Well once again, the season ended yesterday, and for some unknown reason the Mariners are still going to be playing a game of baseball this afternoon, despite the fact that they are currently in first place, have relievers rehabbing soon to be ready to bolster the bullpen, and are even calling up qualified help from AAAA to shore up that 25th spot on the roster:
Mariners recall Shawn O'Malley from Tacoma. Luis Sardinas optioned to Tacoma after last night's game
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) May 15, 2016
Yes, so O'Malley returns to the M's and immediately gets pencilled in to start in centerfield today. This is good, because while O'Malley isn't quite as adept between third and second as Sardinas, his addition brings an extra body to an outfield mix in desperate need of some flexibility. I'd like to think we played a part in making this happen, but the last time we came close to predicting roster moves it brought us a sad man who was kicked in the rear end on his own birthday and also Austin Jackson. Seriously, stop listening to us. Just turn off your computer, go outside, read a book, get day drunk, listen to this two-CD box set of The Best of Polka, just anything.
If the Mariners win today they will still hold on to a slim lead over the Rangers in the AL West standings. If they lose, and the Rangers win, they fall back by a margin so great it can be made up in 48 hours. I'm not saying you can't be worried--I'm just a baseball guy, after all--I'm saying you had better be mad as hell.
Until then, goms.
