Hisashi Iwakuma vs. Collin McHugh

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

A lot has happened today for me, the Mariners fan.

For starters, I wore a retro-themed Mariners track jacket that I have worn many times in life without notice. This morning, my first two social interactions, both with strangers, involved the Mariners and celebrations of first place. Then, later in the day, at my place of employment, a high school student called my attire "sick." High school students don't compliment adults. This feeling that we are all having, it is buzzing around this city and it is delightful.

But today was also a crazy news day. First off, Howard Lincoln said he was going to resign. The Seattle Mariners held a press conference, and instead of merely announcing the new Howard Lincoln, they said that Nintendo had sold the team to the minority owners and would just retain 10 percent ownership. So yeah....that happened.

Tonight, the Mariners go for the sweep on the Houston Astros. So far, the Mariners have beaten the Astros narrowly and beaten the Astros soundly. Because the Mariners will never lose again, perhaps the Mariners will beat the Astros somewhere in the middle tonight, and, in the process, give Hisashi Iwakuma that elusive first win.
