Look, it's Spring Training. There are two games today, and arguably the more interesting one is at Talking Stick with Taijuan Walker on the hill, and Dae-Ho Lee and Luis Sardinas continuing their bids for the Opening Day roster. But screw that, today is about one thing and one thing only: The Spring debut of Felix Hernandez. Now, it's been discussed widely that Felix suffered a down year in 2015, and we're all hoping for a bounce back year in 2016. With that in mind, here's how I would rank the things I want to see from Felix today:
1. Be Felix Hernandez standing on a pitching mound in a Mariner uniform throwing pitches.
2. Be healthy
That's the list. That's all you're looking for with a spring outing from a pitcher of Felix's experience and reputation. Does his change still look wonky? Don't care. Is his fastball velocity not where we'd like? Don't care. Does a young upstart smack a home run off of him? Don't care (although Felix will. He remembers.)
Today is about the return of Felix, who is the greatest Mariner of the last decade, the greatest Mariner pitcher of all-time, and our beloved totem for all that represents loyalty, excellent, and hope. He's back, and I don't care about anything else.
Here's the Colorado lineup, which is the game that's being broadcast today:
