Vidal Nuno Vs. Martin Perez

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

I thought about entitling the thread "Rainiers Vs. Rangers" but apparently my capacity for snark is diminishing as the season winds down. The Mariners had a chance to squeeze an ounce of fun into the misery that has been the 2nd half of this year with a couple wins against the Rangers. Instead they did what they do, which is lose and lose dumbly. Tonight appears to finally be Lloyd's official capitulation. The Mariners are starting Stefen Romero, Steve Baron and Shawn O'Malley.

There is certainly no reason to go on disparaging those three, they all seem earnest and hard working sorts who are chasing a dream. In fact a more sprightly and energetic blogger would be downright excited for Baron, who appeared a huge longshot to ever make the major leagues after the first few years of his career.

There is still no Nelson Cruz, there is still no Franklin Gutierrez. Hopefully the Mariners can play one of those silly, we-have-no-business-winning-this-game-but-we-did-anyways-oops kind of games. Why? Because it is more fun to win than to lose of course.

Win, ya late blooming catchers.
