Well good afternoon baseball! Today the Mariners will be looking to complete the series sweep against the A's down in Oakland, and if they win it will mean that they have won five games in a row for the first time ALL YEAR. We don't need to further drive the absurdity of that claim deeper into your skin, so let's just all agree that what the hell, and get on with it. So how about that lineup?

Today's Lineups

SEATTLE MARINERS OAKLAND A'S
Ketel Marte - SS Billy Burns - CF
Kyle Seager - 3B Mark Canha - LF
Stefen Romero - RF Stephen Vogt - 1B
Robinson Cano - DH Danny Valencia - 3B
Mark Trumbo - LF Brett Lawrie - 2B
Logan Morrison - 1B Billy Butler - DH
Brad Miller - 2B Jake Smolinski - RF
Jesus Sucre - C Josh Phegley - C
Shawn O'Malley - CF Eric Sogard - SS
Hisashi Iwakuma - RHP Sean Nolin - LHP

Whoo boy. If you would have looked at this lineup in, say, April, I don't even know. Steven Romero is hitting third, which is kind of crazy except you have to think about handedness, as Lloyd wants to plop a righty in between Seager and Cano. Then again, it's September 6th and the Mariners are 9 games out of first place and you really want to complain about lineups? Yeah.

Before the game, be sure to stop over at the Seattle Times, where Ryan Divish details a few potential candidates for the Mariners' GM opening. It's kind of both a fun list and also a terrifying list, but it does not include the name Kevin Towers, so you can, at the very least, keep your breakfast down from this morning. Onward and upwards, as we used to say around these parts.
