Hisashi Iwakuma vs. Dream Weaver

Kuma takes the hill and Jered Weaver (so many vowels in your name, sir) combats the radar gun, as the Mariners wrap up their three game series against the Angels tonight.

Weaver has had mixed luck since returning from the DL. He pitched well in his last two starts against the Astros and Rangers, but his velocity decline continues unabated. Seriously. According to PITCHf/x data, none of his pitches are topping out above 90.

Earlier today, the skipper shared this gem:

It almost certainly does not mean everything in the world, but it is fun to note that Jesus Montero is .500/.500/1.000 with 4 home runs and 6 RBI in 10 at-bats against Weaver. Go have a little night, Jesus. Heck, go have a big night. Also, Mark Trumbo will be playing in left field. Again.

Kuma has pitched well of late despite taking a loss against the Rockies his last time out in an annoying game that was bad. The last time he faced the Angels, he limited them to three hits in eight scoreless frames. Then a few starts later he threw a no-hitter. The Mariners are 70-76 and baseball is really strange.

Also of note in the AL West, the Astros and Rangers did a little figurative Texas two-step and the Rangers now hold sole possession of first place in the division as the two teams prepare to square off again tonight.
