Mike Montgomery Vs. Joe Kelly

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

(Before today's game Red Sox manager John Farrell announced to the media that he will take a leave of absence to seek treatment of stage 1 lymphoma. We've had a lot of fun this week with the Mariners and baseball is obviously why we all come here everyday. Farrell's announcement serves as a sobering reminder of the humanity inhabiting the laundry we cheer for and against. Our very best wishes to him for a full and speedy recovery.)

This series the Mariners are clearly a better team than the Red Sox, who are bad. If we are going to be allowed to harbor any sepia-toned hopes and dreams the team must win at least 2 out of the 3 games this weekend. They should, but baseball is dumb and for some reason Logan Morrison is in left field so who knows?

Jesus Sucre gets his 2nd consecutive start and honestly I don't even know. This team was supposed to be absent the black hole performances that have crippled so many past Mariner teams. Instead they've manifested many including the 2015 catcher position, possibly their biggest positional black hole in team history.

There's almost officially no margin for error. For anything resembling hope for a miracle the team can afford to lost ~17 more games. It's time to start the impossible.

Win, ya 75 degree cups of tea.
