Felix Hernandez vs. Alex Colome

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

There are a lot of things to look forward to today. It is going to be an absolute beauty of a night for baseball. The Lookout Landing BBQ is happening and some of you will be hanging out and using real names instead of usernames when bantering with each other. And the most important part -- it is a Felix Day! The happiest of all days!

Then again, there are also a lot of things to not look forward to today. For one, the Mariners are mired in a seven-game losing streak that keeps extending in new and pathetic ways with every passing game. Last night's loss the Tampa Bay Rays was the prime example of the futility of the Mariners as a team at the moment.

J.A. Happ pitched seven strong innings to give the Mariners a chance, but the Mariners were having none of it. A 0-0 tie in the 9th inning turned into a 1-0 game after Fernando Rodney gave up a solo home run. The Mariners looked like they would re-tie the game in the bottom of the 9th when Austin Jackson led off the inning with a leadoff triple. A leadoff triple! But Brad Miller, Mike Zunino and Dustin Ackley weren't team players and left Jackson looking longingly at home plate under a chorus of justified boos from the home fans.

The Mariners are going to need King Felix to bounce back from this worst pitching performance of the season. Last time out against the Yankees he was tagged with seven runs and left the game after just 4.2 innings. If Felix gives up seven runs again you might as well turn the game off early, but the feeling right now is that if Felix gives up two runs you might as well turn the game off early as well. The Mariners haven't scored more than three runs in 10 straight games. Something has to give -- the Mariners' bats, or our collective sanity.
