Jeremy Guthrie vs. Mike Montgomery

Jennifer Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Questions about how the Mariners would move on from Edgar Martinez as hitting coach were answered today, as the living legend was traded to the Tigers in exchange for their batting instructor, Wally Joyner. Martinez couldn't be reached for comment, but manager Lloyd McClendon praised the move, citing Joyner's experience: "Wally really knows hitting, and I'm confident that he'll get our offense turned around." Howard Johnson will take over on an interim basis until Joyner arrives tomorrow.

The Mariners included their first pick from the 2015 draft, Nick Neidert, to complete the deal. The right-hander will help bolster one of the worst farm systems in baseball, and it's pretty clear that the Tigers see something in the kid. Detroit has already assigned Neidert to their roster in Double-A Erie, where he'll be the youngest player in the league. We wish him all the best in his new organization and hope to see him in the major leagues soon.

Nothing in those previous two paragraphs is true. Edgar is still in town, Neidert hasn't been traded. My hunch is that nobody reads the game thread though, so I thought I'd do a little test. The comment thread will be the ultimate arbiter here, I suppose.

Goms.
